The Girl In The Cupboard Goes To School Workbook
Introduction:
It is a privilege introducing the workbook “The Girl in the Cupboard Goes to School.”
Because of the pressing desire in my heart to see many get healed and climb out of the confines of their cupboards, I have developed this workbook. It is designed to be a handy tool for teachers and all others who work with and support young children. This workbook is my response to the silent cries of the many children who are pleading for help! I have no doubt that this workbook will be a vital tool to many. When I first thought about the workbook the first idea that came forcefully to my mind was encapsulated in the word “Help!”
It gives me a good feeling to know that our children, families and friends can now prevent child abuse. Those who are victims and cannot get out of their cupboards can learn from Annie and help work their way out of their painful situations by reading ‘The Girl in the Cupboard’ and making use of this workbook.
This knowledge can free us from a life of bondage and open our eyes to help others. I pray that using the workbook, “The Girl in the Cupboard Goes to School”, will help teachers in particular who will be able to help children better understand their rights and responsibilities. I pray too that pupils develop empathy towards one another as we all seek to deal with the chronic scourge of abuse plaguing our land.
At the dawn of the 21st century, the Ministry of Education has sought to give added priority to the development of Life Skills for psycho-social competence. Primary school students are expected to acquire these skills through guided learning experiences within and outside the classroom. The paradigm shift from a knowledge-based Guide is set out in the new Primary Health and Family Life Education Curriculum. The relevance of such a document is heightened with each passing day.
The workbook “The Girl in the Cupboard goes to School” is a sequel to the autobiographical “The Girl in the Cupboard” which traces the development of Annie from a life of despair to one of triumph. The workbook focuses on two of the major thematic concerns highlighted in the Curriculum Guide: Self and Interpersonal Relationships and Sexuality and Sexual Health. It is structured largely in the form of questions as a guide for stimulating healthy discussion of the issues raised.
